Project Name: Uplifting People for Sustainability (UPS)
Registered with: Societies Act 1860 | Punjab Charity Commission (PCC) | Economic Affairs Division (EAD)
Project Overview
Under the flagship initiative Uplifting People for Sustainability (UPS), HEAL Foundation Pakistan has launched a significant healthcare outreach program—Free Medical Camps—targeting remote and marginalized areas with little to no access to government health services or NGO medical support.
Since 2021, the Foundation has consistently provided free, high-quality healthcare services to vulnerable communities in villages where even the most basic medical facilities are unavailable.
Objectives
- To provide free primary healthcare services to low-income and underprivileged families.
- To reach communities where no Basic Health Units (BHUs) or private clinics exist.
- To promote preventive care through regular screening and follow-ups.
Services Offered in Camps
- Free Blood Sugar & Blood Pressure Testing
- Free Ultrasound Services
- Free General OPD Check-ups
- Free Medicines Distribution
- Free Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
- Follow-up Medical Camps (after 15 days)
- All services are provided under the supervision of licensed doctors and trained paramedical staff, ensuring quality and trust.
Medical Team
- Dr. Arooj Khalid – Gynecologist
- Dr. Kainat Mahmood – Ultrasound Specialist
- Dr. Azal Paul – M.B.B.S
- Dr. Sajawal Bhatti – General Physician
- Dr. Shazaib Gill – Physiotherapist
Project Achievements (2021–2024)
- Total Patients Examined: 4,800 – 5,500
- Target Areas: Remote villages lacking health units
- Follow-up Camps: Conducted bi-monthly to ensure continued care
- Community Feedback: Remarkably positive, especially regarding free medicines and doctor availability
- Reach: Benefiting the poorest families, especially daily wage laborers, elderly patients, and women
Challenges Faced
- Geographical Barriers: Reaching far-off areas with poor infrastructure
- Limited Resources: Shortage of medicines and funding for transport/logistics
- Affordability Gaps: Poor patients cannot afford to travel or consult specialists on their own
- Lack of Permanent Facilities: No permanent center for ongoing patient treatment
Impact
- Made specialist care accessible to people who otherwise could not afford it
- Built trust within marginalized communities by offering consistent, dignified care
- Identified critical, untreated conditions through early diagnosis
- Promoted preventive health behavior among undereducated populations
Future Plans
- Expand outreach to more unreached villages annually
- Establish a permanent free hospital for the underserved, in collaboration with donor partners
- Mobilize mobile health units to improve access to distant communities
- Integrate maternal and child health services into the camps
- Seek additional support for surgical cases and chronic disease management
Partner Recognition
HEAL Foundation expresses sincere gratitude to its international partner, Humanitarian Project International (HPI) Australia, for their continuous support. Their 2023 visit to a live medical camp, where they engaged with patients and medical staff, was deeply impactful. Moved by the conditions they witnessed, they pledged to support the establishment of a Free Hospital in Pakistan—a major milestone for our organization and beneficiaries.
Conclusion
HEAL Foundation is proud to serve the most vulnerable communities in Pakistan. Our Free Medical Camps are more than health interventions—they are a symbol of hope, care, and human dignity. With continued support, we aim to deepen our impact and bring quality healthcare to every corner where it is needed most.
